So...I'm Just Sayin'

So I decided to start a blog after a suggestion some time back from my oldest son. Actually, at the time, I was thinking of joining facebook and he said, "Mom what you need is a blog". It's likely that he didn't really want me to join facebook, but I did anyway. At the time I didn't know the difference between blogging and social networking, but I am beginning to see the differences and want to try the blogosphere.

A few weeks ago, I was playing in a USTA tennis match when I met an interesting gentleman. He was in his late 60s and while we waited for play to begin, we started to chat. He told me he had recently gotten a PhD in Philosophy. He went on that when he decided to go back to school for the PhD some of his friends commented that he would be 68 years old when he finished his degree. His response was, "I'll be 68 years old whether I get the degree or not!"

I love that attitude! So I am starting the blog and we shall see where it goes. I plan to write about cooking and sports and who knows what else.

One final thought on my first blog post - I'm sure you have noticed how people begin a sentence with 'so'? And end with 'I'm just saying'. Maybe the 'so' beginning feels like you are already in the middle of the conversation even though there is alot that has happened previously that you just don't really have time to go back into. It does give a certain sense of familiarity with the conversation. And to end with 'I'm just saying' (usually accompanied by body language like a shoulder shrug) is almost like an apology for anything that may have been taken as offense. It's like you can say most anything and then end it with 'I'm just saying' and all is square with the world.

So, I decided to start a blog. I'm just sayin'.
